Christmas in July… But What About New Year’s in August?
Hear me out…
We’ve all heard of Christmas in July.
But what about New Year’s in August?
Or April.
Or October.
Or… heck… next Tuesday.
I’ve been thinking…
Maybe one of the reasons so many people struggle with New Year’s resolutions is because we’re all expected to wake up on January 1st with this magical “new year, new me” attitude.
This is the year I’m gonna lose the weight.
This is the year I’m gonna get organized.
This is the year I’m gonna save money.
This is the year I’m gonna start going to the gym.
This is the year I’m gonna quit procrastinating.
Then January 2nd rolls around, somebody brings donuts to work, it’s 19 degrees outside, the gym is packed, and suddenly “New Year, New Me” is taking a nap until next January. 🤣
But the more I think about it, the more I wonder if there’s actually something psychological going on here.
January comes with a ton of pressure.
New year. New body. New habits. New goals. New everything.
It’s like we’re expected to become a completely different person overnight, and by February we’re worn slap out because we tried to change our whole life in one week.
What if that’s the problem?
What if the calendar is putting pressure on us that doesn’t need to be there?
Now imagine this…
It’s a random Tuesday in August.
Nothing special is happening.
No confetti.
No countdown.
No one else is making resolutions.
You just wake up and decide, “Today’s my fresh start.”
Somehow that feels different to me.
It feels like your decision instead of something the calendar bullied you into.
Why does January get all the glory anyway?
Why can’t your New Year be July 12th?
Or August 7th?
Or April 17th?
You don’t need fireworks, a ball dropping in Times Square, or a brand-new planner to decide today’s the day you start becoming the person you want to be.
Maybe your “New Year” is simply the day you finally decide you’re ready.
No countdown.
No pressure.
No “I’ll wait until Monday.”
Just… today.
I kinda like the idea of celebrating random New Year’s Days all year long.
Who’s with me?
If you could pick any random date to be your own personal New Year’s Day, what date would you choose… and what would you start?
